What are Complex Spinal Fusions?

Spinal fusion includes lumbar spinal fusion, cervical spinal fusion, and PLIFs. The goal of these procedures is to limit joint pain. Complex spine fusions can be used to treat various diseases such as degenerative disc disease or spondylolisthesis. The surgery includes a bone graft or substitution being placed in the spine. This facilities the growth of the bone between the vertebra so that the two will eventually form into one bone.

The healing period after undergoing a complex spine fusion varies. Typically, a patient will be able to return to work between 4 and 6 weeks post-surgery.
